Smallville ended it's 10 year run this evening. Did anyone else watch the final episode? If so, what did you think? Was there anything you'd like to have seen done that wasn't? (For not only this episode, but the whole series.)

For those who are unaware what the show is about, Smallville tells an altered version of the history of Superman before he became Superman. (The various trials and tribulations of Clark Kent's journey. From high school to the news room at the Daily Planet.)

It was a pretty good show for the most part... Though some episodes were better than others. (Like with any show really) but the bad episodes were excruciatingly bad.

Though I got really sick of seeing Lana Lang (just the character, the actress was ok) after a while. I was glad when they wrote her out.

Also... the fight scenes were a pretty HUGE disappointment. They were consistently short and uninspired.

That said, I still loved the show. The good stories were really good, interesting and well thought out.

Seen bits and pieces of the later episodes....

Nothing against the show itself, but I dislike how Lane, Luthor and others get all wrapped up in where Clark grew up. Doesn't sit well with me. The show gives the imppression of showing his life before all that. Granted, what I've seen WAS near the end, still. It just sounds to me like a story that started off modest, and put famous characters in for views and fanservice.

Can I get a brief overview of the story?

Lex Luthor is there from the beginning. In the very first episode, Lex totals his car on Clark's face causing them to fall into the river below. Clark, unfazed, saves Lex.

If memory serves...
Season 1 is about Clark and Lex's friendship. Building it while Clark struggles with keeping his powers a secret from Lex while stopping various humans turned superhumans by the green meteor rocks (kryptonite).

Season 2 is about Clark sharing his superpower-secret with his closest friend and how that changes things. Especially once people start to look for Clark.

Season 3 is about Lionel Luthor's experiments on Lex and a new character, Adam Knight.

Season 4 is all about Lana. She gets a new boyfriend (Jensen Ackles, before he was doing Supernatural.) where it turns out she and her new boyfriend are connected to these Kyrptonian crystals that hold the secrets of the universe. Naturally which Clark needs to go find. (Lois is introduced here as the cousin of Chloe.)

Season 5 is where Johnathan Kent competes against Lex Luthor to become state senator while Clark deals with his friendship with Lex dissolves and Lex's develops a bitter obsession with Clark.

Season 6 is where a dangerous group of enemies is released from the Phantom zone, Clark has to return them all while dealing with his intended marriage to Lana.

Season 7 is where Clark battles Brainiac while struggling with his new cousin (Supergirl) and dealing with the mysterious Veritas group who seek the Traveler (Clark).

Season 8 deals with Doomsday.

Season 9 is where General Zod, in person, arrives and tries to gain his powers to enslave the human race.

Season 10 is where Darkseid comes to Earth to take it over, Clark and Lois decide to get married and Clark finally becomes Superman.

Granted there is a lot more than that though, I just gave a pretty vague overview. Plus I didn't want to give too many spoilers.

Darkseid? Really?

I'll have to give this series a chance then.

Darkseid. Was he portrayed well?

He was portrayed fairly close to the other incarnations story wise. (A mastermind with incredible powers.) Though due to the lack of fight scene prowess, we really don't get a true Superman vs Darkseid.

Plus he had his lackies... Desaad, Granny Goodness and Kalibak. (Though Kalibak looked normal rather than the brutish form he had in the cartoons/comics.)

Can't believe how long this series ran for. I really did like the first four or five seasons of it the rest felt a bit blah here and there.

For me, season 4 was the weakest point of the series. Yeah it had Jensen Ackles (who is awesome on Supernatural) but the story wasn't that interesting. Especially since they made Lana a rather large aspect of it. (This is really where I got tired of seeing Lana. It seemed like every scene she was in she was going on about how she was protecting someone. Which just got tiring to listen to.)

Season 5 and up was better. (Though season 6 felt like it should have been something done in a true Superman show, once Clark dons the cape and takes flight. Though I suppose most of the seasons after 6 could have been that way too... Especially the Doomsday one. Doomsday was so mishandled.)

Season 4 had its place ,but I never payed attention to her. I was more for the Clark x Chloe idea till Louis appeared and we knew what would happen eventually kind of deal.

I liked what I saw of Smallville when I was younger, which would have only been a few episodes or so. I have to watch the rest sometime, but it's not a high priority, since I don't really like Superman due to his godmoddiness.

He's not all that godly in this series though. Plenty of times he gets into jams he can't fix by himself which is why it's ok. It's not always about Clark smashing things into the ground. The kryptonite in this show really does a number on him. (Unlike in the movie Superman Returns where he basically lifts a whole island made of the stuff and flings it into the sun.)

Though later in the series they do start to bring more focus to what's happening with other heroes.(Green Arrow gets a lot of screen time for being a show about pre-Superman Clark Kent. Aqua man is shown a fair bit too.)

Kind of annoyingly, Batman only gets a reference by Chloe very late in the series, when she is talking about all kinds of heroes she's met.

Though overall it is worth a watch if you have the spare time.
